The Bergamot wins Bug Light Battle of the Bands 2012

The Bergamot will perform @ Port Paradise Music Fesitival 2012

After months of playing shows and receiving thousands of votes; South Bend’s very own Americana band, The Bergamot has been voted “The Best Unsigned American Band” by Bud Light in their 2012 Battle of the Bands. Jillian Speece and Nathan Hoff, the core of The Bergamot, will be performing with their 4-piece band at the Port Paradise Music Festival 2012, held Nov. 17-18 in The Bahamas along with Brad Paisley, Pitbull, Young the Giant, All American Rejects, Flo Rida, and the Far East Movement.

After 3 months of competing against dozens of musicians across the U.S., The Bergamot placed TOP 3 in Bud Light’s Battle of the Band competition. “There were ups and downs throughout the entire contest.” Jillian explains, “We were first, then we fell into fifth overnight… It wasn’t easy, but the hard work from our community & fans paid off. We couldn’t have done it without them.”

The Bergamot’s upcoming Static Flowers, due out Dec. 4, is imbued with the spirit of the duo’s hometown, South Bend, Ind. “The turmoil of the city is so alive, it is palpable. It is the constant push and pull between the city decaying and folks who are trying to rebuild it,” says Jillian Speece, whose vocals morph from heartbreaking to soaring and every place in between. The music on Static Flowers is as much of a blend as South Bend with folk, pop, country, and rock brought together with Speece and Nathan Hoff’s (vocals, guitar, kick drum, keys) classical training and love, passion and vibrancy.

The Bergamot, an Americana duo & band combination, is inspired by the rawness of their Indiana hometown where Jillian Speece (vocals) and Nathan Hoff’s (vocals, guitar, kick drum, keys) journey first began. Speece and Hoff are both classically trained musicians, but their songwriting inspiration comes from the classics of another era: 20th century popular music. The Bergamot’s blissful combustion of singer songwriter and modern pop, crisp vocal harmonies, earnest storytelling and intricate instrumentation is founded in the classic work of Motown, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Miles Davis, and Buddy Holly. The Aquarian’s Sara Fazio calls The Bergamot “a force to be reckoned with.”
